Abstract This leaflet is aimed at people on the public register concerning contained use of GMOs. It explains the amendment to the Genetically Modified Organisms (Contained Use) (Amendment) Regulations 2002, made in the light of the terrorist attacks in the USA on and after 11 September 2001. The amendment enables information to be excluded from the register in the interests of national security. The leaflet explains why information is being excluded, who decides what is excluded, and the implications of exclusions. Contents: What is the Public Register and what does it contain?; What is this leaflet about?; Why is information being excluded from the Register?; Who decides what should be excluded from the Register?; What information is being excluded from the Register?; Who decides what should be excluded from the Register?; What information is being excluded from the Register?; For how long will information be excluded from the Register?; How will I know if information about my work has been excluded from the Register?; Will the exclusion of information from the Register delay the notification process?; Will I still be able to see other information on the Register?; Do I have to make an appointment when accessing the Register?; What effect will the provisions of the Amending Regulations have on sharing research results, etc with others?; What should I do if I think information should be excluded from the Register?; Are additional security measures required as well?; Does the withholding of information affect other controls on GM material? What further information is available?; Where can I find out about other aspects of genetic modification and security measures?.
