| Abstract |
This report describes a series of further trials carried out by Robert Gordon's Institute of Technology to study the selfrighting ability and airways protection of immersion suits and lifejackets when used in combination. Since publication of previous trials in 1988 (OTI 88 538) manufacturers have taken account of that study and developed new lifejackets. These and other lifejackets which have been included in this latest report represent the majority currently available to the offshore industry at the time of the study. The trials were performed using a manikin which has been shown in a separate study, under the guidance of a government/industry steering group, to be a valid tool to simulate a relaxed or unconcious person in the sea. Although the findings and conclusions reached will require detailed and informed consideration by industry particular attention is drawn to the recommendations. Contents: Introduction; Methods; Tests; Results; Analysis; Discussion; Conclusions; Recommendations; Acknowledgements; References; Appendices. |
