Abstract This approved Guide sets out the general principles of classification and labelling for supply as required by the Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging for Supply) Regulations 2002 (known as 'CHIP 3'). It is addressed to manufacturers, importers and other suppliers who have responsibilities for the classification and labelling of dangerous substances and preparations and closely follows the European Commission's 'Labelling guide', ie Annex VI to Directive 67/548/EEC. The purpose of classification is to identify the properties of substances and preparations that may constitute a hazard during normal handling and use.
