Abstract Presents the findings of a survey of employers and others undertaken in 1991/92 by inspectors from the HSE and local authorities, to assess the level of understanding of, and compliance with the Noise at Work Regulations 1989. The study shows that while much has been done by industry to understand the requirements of the regulations, there appears to be a gap between knowledge and action, particularly in smaller firms.
