Abstract	Provides guidance, primarily to employers, on how to interpret and apply the requirements of regulation 15 of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98) and paragraphs 130 to 135 of the Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) 'Safe Use of Woodworking Machinery that relate to the retrospective fitting of braking to certain classes of woodworking machinery. Contents: Why do I need to consider fitting braking to my machinery ? If the decision whether or not to fit braking is based on risk assessment, why are some machines listed in the ACOP? If my risk assessment shows that braking is necessary, how do I do it? Replacing an unbraked motor with a braked motor; Fitting a DC injection braking device to an existing unbraked motor; Fitting a power-operated mechanical brake; Fitting a manual or foot-operated brake; The ACOP says that braking is not required if the rundown time of the machine is 10 seconds or less.
